DIY Festival Inspired Pom Pom Necklace
I dont know about you but I am sooooo feeling the festival vibe right now!
It has been a little while since we had a Guest DIY around here so we were super excited when this little festival inspired gem landed in our inbox. As some of you will know, Natalie and Guy from Curious Fair are 2 of our guest posters, they have been crazy busy over the past few months creating pieces for lots of shoots with various fab suppliers including this ‘Native American Styled shoot’ at the beginning of the year and our ‘Enchanted Forest’ shoot that we featured back in May. We are truly very thankful to these superstars for putting some time aside in their very hectic schedule to create this for you lovely lot, I know this DIY is going to keep many of you occupied this weekend.
Over to you Natalie…
“After making headdresses for festivals this summer we had lots of trimmings & feathers left over which inspired us to make something completely new! This DIY is perfect for using up small lengths of trimmings & old broken jewelry you may have lying around the house!”
You will need: Scissors// Pliers// Wire Cutters// A wide decorative trimming// Mini pom pom trimming// Old necklaces & broken jewelry// Needle & Thread// Thin wire// Colourful Feathers & Tassels (optional)//
Step 1: Cut the wide decorative trimming to size, we made our piece 18cm long but you can make it any size you like (use a mirror to work out what looks best). You can buy curved decorative pieces or you can create the curve yourself by sewing it at points to create the desired shape.
Step 2: Lay your decorative piece flat and place the rest of your trimmings around it, cutting them when you’re happy with their lengths.
Step 3: Sew all of the additional trimmings together at either end.
Step 4: Use metal pieces from an old or broken necklace to secure the wide trimming & other trimmings in place. You can buy metal or plastic ‘space bars’ or ‘connectors’ online as an alternative to up-cycling old jewelry.
Step 5: Use thin beading wire to attach the chain of an old necklace (or new chain which you can also buy online) to the metal connector. Use pliers & wire cutters to trim and secure the metal wire in place.
Step 6: Finally sew pieces of old necklace chain, beads, tassels & feathers to the necklace. These are purely decorative elements so have fun decorating it however you like!
Step 7: Stand out from the crowd and rock those mini pom poms! Perfect for end of summer festivals!
I am so in love with this DIY, I am going to have to make one for myself!!
