I will be honest and tell you that I have no idea what type of dress I would get married in, I wouldn’t even know where to start but I would certainly have heaps of fun trying on lots of different colours and styles. For me, the dress has to be one of the most important aspects of any wedding. I couldn’t imagine walking down the aisle feeling anything less than perfect.

Of course not everyone can be winner a today so we thought we would share some tips that we have picked up along the way  on how to nab that perfect bridal gown!

#1 Set Yourself a Budget!

I cannot stress enough how important it is to budget for your wedding, especially when it comes to the bigger items such as the dress. There is nothing worse than finding the perfect gown to later be disheartened when you hear the price tag. So use your head and set yourself a budget that way you can avoid disappointments and you will use your time much more wisely!

#2 Put Aside Enough Time to go Dress Shopping!

Don’t leave your dress shopping until the last minute! Some find that it takes months to find the perfect dress, not only that, factor in time for ordering, fittings and alterations and you will soon discover just how much time goes into creating your dream dress.

#3 Take Someone With You!

I would never be able to go dress shopping without taking someone who I know is sure to give me sound advice, my mum would be the perfect example as she is always completely honest about what she thinks. However I would also warn against taking too many opinions as you are rarely going to find a dress that everyone likes – just a word of caution.

#4 Don’t Think You Have to Find ‘The One’!

We have all heard tales of ‘The One!’ but please don’t be disillusioned, many brides try on hundreds of dresses and will love most of them, whereas others will be decided on the first dress they try on. This is completely down to the individual so don’t get stressed because you haven’t found ‘The One’ yet, you might have just found lots of them.

#5 Find a Good Dressmaker or Seamstress!

You might find yourself in a position where you have found an almost perfect dress but it is a little too long, or the neckline needs altering? Maybe you haven’t been able to find the right dress for you in any boutique but you have the perfect design in mind? This is where a good seamstress or dressmaker will come in. Talk to them about the alterations you require and show them lots of ideas of dresses you have liked for inspiration. All this information will help the dressmaker get an idea of exactly what you want so that they can go away and recreate your ideal bespoke gown! This might seem like a really scary process but I can assure you some of the most amazing dresses were born this way!
