Bright Lights and Big Rides: How to Plan a Luna Park Wedding That’s Full of Colour and Fun!

Well well well, the Coocouturiers have well and truly blown my mind once again! I honestly dont know where they come up with these ideas but each and every time they just knock it right out of the park!
If you are unfamiliar with their work then seriously where have you been?
The goal of the Coocouture Collective is to show how alternative themes can be made accessible and translated into the highest quality wedding styling. Over the summer we featured their Edwardian Steampunk Scientist Bride and since then they have welcomed not just one but two more Coocouturiers to their collective. Hmmm I wonder who they could be? Us of course!!! We were beyond thrilled when Gwenda asked if we would like to join the team, we have been wanting to work more on alternative type styled shoots for some time but were really struggling to find the time and manpower, so this really couldn’t have come at a better time for us. Watch this space as we have some fabulous shoots lined up for you, for now here is a look at the latest offerings from the Coocouturiers…
Gwenda, The Vintage Floral Design Co.: “This ‘Japanese take on Victoriana, transported to an English Country House’ theme required a giant creative leap to bring to life and was a huge amount of fun! The flowers (roses, hydrangeas, lavender, alchemilla mollis and gypsophila) encapsulated all the key colours for the shoot: pink, orange, blue, purple and lime, with a touch of black. To interpret the theme, these classic blooms were chosen for their ‘vintage’ credentials.
We decided that in order or make our shoots as epic as possible, we would invite select vendors, who could contribute something different to what we can provide, to join us. This time, we invited three companies to be a part of the styling of the shoot, which included Michaela from Comeuppance who handcrafted paper flowers from fine textured Italian paper; the stylised shapes of the flowers really complemented the brightly coloured Harajuku theme. Melissa of The Sweet Hostess also joined us, she used a hot pink sequin table cloth, miniature milk bottles, straws and sugar swizzle sticks to complement the quirkiness of the tablescape, adding extra bright colours and shimmer. Finally, Ellen & Elizabeth of Vintage Flair, selected ‘candy colours’ – mint, peach and pink along with rose patterns to complete the Harajuku theme. Each vintage china piece had heavy gold gilt edging which added glamour and captured the sunlight perfectly in the beautiful garden setting.
Little did those poor teacups and milk jugs know that they would be suspended in mid-air – but they made a beautiful backdrop!
Anneke from Retromorphosist was in charge of makeup. Inspired by the Geishas, who would use red and pink on their eyes and cheeks, she created a hairstyle that was typically Harajuku – girly and innocent with the addition of a fringe. She especially enjoyed making the nails, creating a 3D confection of tiny stars, cakes, sweets and rhinestones, adding to the playful look of the shoot.
Karen from Dornellie designed a huge head bow (very big, somewhat huge in fact!!) and a more subtle (!!) black edged peach veil covered in tiny black satin bows finished the over the top but stunning look. The puffball and bow were the key styles and it was important she went to town with both. It was a fantastic opportunity to release a real burst of colour and creativity but maintaining a beautiful wedding atmosphere.
