A Handmade, Upcycled, Festival Wedding: Katie & Josh
As I sit here watching the wind and rain batter the trees outside I am reminded that summer is well and truly over. If you are anything like me you are in dire need of a little something to remind you of the warmer months. Well never fear as Darren Mack Photography is here with this summery handmade wedding up his sleeve, perfect for brightening up a day such as this!
“Josh and I knew from the beginning that we wanted to do something a bit different for our wedding. We both love the outdoors, music and festivals so we thought what better than to have a festival wedding. We kept things quite simple, as we didn’t have much of a budget, so we upcycled, recycled, scavenged and hunted for a bargain at every opportunity! Our friends and family loved the idea, and jumped on board to help us, we literally couldn’t have done it without them!
I knew exactly what type of wedding dress I wanted, but I couldn’t find it in any bridal shops, so I got the sewing machine out, and roped in my nan to help me make my dress. On the morning of the wedding, in between make-up, hair and last minute preparations, my sister was knelt, sewing me into my dress – those are the memories I will treasure forever.
We had the ceremony in our local church, and we walked down the aisle to our friend Tom playing a song on the piano that Josh had composed! We had the reception at our friends organic farm, with a picnic lunch, lots of board games for the kids, a face-painter, and our friends performed the music! (In true festival style we had 5 different bands!) Josh wrote and recorded the song for our first dance, and the day had the most beautiful end; toasting marshmallows around a campfire outside our tents! We decorated the venue with handmade bunting, windmills, lavender and some great gems that were hidden in my dads garden shed (he’s a bit of a hoarder!) Everything was handmade, up cycled or second hand. Our photographer Darren was great, and the venue was perfect for getting some unusual photos. We ended up climbing on old tractors, sitting on huge tree trunks and wading through overgrown plants, but it was so worth it for the beautiful photos that Darren took!
The best thing about our wedding was the love we felt from our beautiful friends and family. We were blown away by how incredibly generous and kind everyone was; we are utterly blessed to have such amazing people around us. They helped us with everything from making the decorations, helping with catering and serving the cocktails to doing the music and even helping to clear up the next day! Our friends and family made our day perfect, and we couldn’t have done it without them!”
