AN ENCHANTED WEDDING IN AN URBAN FOREST: MARIE & MATT
Pretty much my favourite car in the whole entire world is the Cadillac. It has always been my dream to own a 1954 Fleetwood Series 60,in the color pink, just like the one Elvis Presley used to own, which is why I had to share todays wedding with you! It features a cadillac just like this guys!!! I couldn’t contain my excitement I just had to let the world see it!
Marie and Matt were married at Fazeley Studios in Birmingham, surrounded by the perfect mix of urban decay and spiritual serenity, not two descriptions you are ever likely to hear together again thats for sure! Here is bride Marie to tell you more…
“A million images and themes must have raced through my head of what our Wedding would look and feel like. I thought I might explode, I’m not going to lie, I wanted everything!!
After going crazy for a few weeks I calmed down, probably due to exhaustion more than anything else. The wedding fog cleared and a theme emerged.
Matt and I wanted our wedding to feel magical, who doesn’t I guess, we wanted to take our guests on a journey away from reality for a day. I have always liked the idea of secret magical places, fairy tales set in dark forests where good and bad reside. Visions of green fluffy moss, toadstools and low twinkling lights began to fill my mind.
So we excitedly decided on an enchanted forest theme, colours would predominantly be pink and green. I was over joyed. We had made a decision.
We then needed to find a venue that fit…..and fit it did, what a treasure, it lent itself to our theme wonderfully. We fell in love with it immediately. Fazeley Studios is situated in the back streets of Birmingham amongst graffiti and urban decay, but once you opened those big blue doors you were greeted with a spiritual oasis of peace and serenity. The juxtaposition of the urban decay and the beautiful interior of the venue re-enforced the light and dark of the enchanted theme, which we loved.
Matt and I laughed as we imagined our guests finding the venue and being taken aback, then having their illusions shattered when entering.
Matt and I wanted to make as much as possible for our Wedding, it was important for it to be personal, to come from us. Some of the things we made included…
Name placements, which we made from small round pieces of wood, hand cut by my Dad, bless him. Matt and I hand wrote each guests name, and I designed a leaf motif to surround the names. We then varnished them many, many, many times over. We also made our own personal ones which Matt and I made for each other, with a poem on the back that we could only read on the day, these are now treasures of our special day.
For our seating plan I painted a tree and each table sprouted out in the shape of a leaf. Matt hand wrote each guests name in beautiful hand writing he had crafted especially. We then framed in a large ornate frame.
We loved making the table decorations, including wooden toadstools with poems hand written on them, they were then decorated with butterflies, moss and red spotted tiny toadstools. We also collected some much smaller pretty jars which we filled with moss, silk leaves and toadstool candles, these looked magical when lit. All the tables were scattered with autumnal silk leaves. The centre pieces were long twigs with the table names hung on them, each table was named after a destination on our honeymoon.
Finally our big day was here, the weather was perfect. We only really had one hic up, one pretty stressful one in fact, as we had an issue with the car not turning up. Matt and I hired a stunning pink American stretched 1959 Cadillac which was to take the Groom to the Venue, then to come back and get me. Unfortunately the drivers sat nav failed to point him the right direction, he also failed to pick up his mobile phone and had to use a passers by to call me, just what every bride wants to deal with on their big day.
So poor Matt missed out on his Caddy ride (but did make up for it with some great pics with the groomsmen in it later) and had to get a lift with one of our lovely Photographers Richard.
I have loved these cars since I was a child and was reluctant to even think about a plan B, I waited upstairs to see if I could spot the car, a pink glow entered my home and I knew it had arrived….phew!!
The day went beautifully the guests gushed over our special touches and they were truly taken with how personal and relaxed the day was. Watching them at their tables discovering all the bits and pieces was a joy. I could go on and on about planning our wedding and how amazing our day was but I have to stop somewhere.”
