DIY FLORAL & STRAWBERRY INFUSED ICE TEA
There is something about the arrival of summer that makes me want to sit out in the garden and drink cocktails all day long, even though that probably wouldn’t do my productivity a whole lot of good? Maybe it’s because summer reminds me of holidays and holidays remind me of cocktails, who knows?
Anyway I digress. This time of year I want to drink something cold, refreshing and fruity and then it hit me, why not mix this with my favorite all time drink – TEA!! Now brits, although well known for their tradition of tea drinking, are notoriously bad at making ice tea (according to the Americans). This I have learned is because our traditional teas such as PG & Typhoo are too bitter and so I went on the hunt for Liptons. Too my surprise I couldn’t find Liptons in any of my local supermarkets so I opted for the next best thing and according to forums, that was Twinings.
Now lets move on to the recipe, I think you will be surprised by just how easy the whole process is and tasty too! I can definitely imagine kicking back watching Wimbledon with this – who needs Pimms anyway! Oooo and I forgot to mention that today is actually National Ice Tea Day, so what better way to celebrate!
You Will Need:
5 Twinings Tea Bags// 10 cups water// 1 cup of sliced strawberries// 3/4 cup sugar or sweetener// 2 Trays of ice (we used edible floral ice cubes with herbs such as mint and basil – here is a good tutorial from Martha Stewart)// 1/2 Lemon//
Step 1
Add your water and tea bags to a pan and bring to just below boiling.
Step 2
Pour in your sugar or sweetener and bring to the boil.
Step 3
Remove the teabags and then remove the pan from the heat. Add your strawberries & a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and leave to infuse for about 15 mins.
Step 4
Remove the strawberries and leave to cool before adding your ice.
Step 5
Serve cold and garnish with extra strawberries & ice cubes if needed.
Make these for designated drivers & younger guests at weddings or even just for your garden parties this summer, Enjoy!
