MAKE THIS: KATHERINE SABBATH INSPIRED CAKE!
First things first, I just want to say that in no way could we ever be as good at decorating cakes as the epic Katherine Sabbath is, but since it’s my birthday today we thought we would give it a dam good go! These were the colourful results and if anything it’s a cake that Katy Perry herself would be proud of! If you’d like to have a go at making your own inspired cake then here’s how you can do it….
YOU WILL NEED:
A four tier cake in whatever flavour you like with a crumb coat. (you can learn how to crumb coat here) // 500g butter // 1k icing sugar // Splash of milk // food colouring (we chose pink and blue but the blue turned out green!) // 200g chopped white chocolate // 200ml double cream // Sprinkles, sweets and lollipops for decoration //
STEP 1:
The first thing you need to do is whip up your buttercream! So whisk together your butter (softened is easer) with your icing sugar until light and fluffy then gradually add in your food colouring until you’re happy with the colour.
STEP 2:
Using a knife or a spatula, apply your buttercream to the entire of your cake making it as smooth as possible. We did the sides first then finished off on the top of the cake. Once you’re done pop your cake in the fridge for an hour.
STEP 3:
Next, it’s time to make the ganache that will dribble down the edges of the cake. This bit can be a tad scary but as long as you remain calm you will be A-Ok we promise! First of all, heat your cream in a pan until just below boiling then remove from the heat and add in your chopped white chocolate.
STEP 4:
Leave the mixture for a few minutes and the heat from the cream should melt the chocolate, once it has, give the mix a good stir and add in your other colour of food colouring until you’re happy! Next, allow it to cool slightly so it thickens.
STEP 5:
Oooh here we go! Grab your pan and slowly tip your mixture over the top of the cake covering as much of it as you can, starting at the centre then working your way out. The ganache should eventually start to tip over the edge and run down the cake but if it doesn’t you can give it a little push with a spatula.
STEP 6:
The fun part! Start decorating the top of your cake to your hearts content! We added 3 long lollipops to the top of ours then created a half moon shape with the rest of our dolly mixture, bubblegums and other sweets! We also added a few sprinkles to the top at this point.
STEP 7:
Finally, use your remaining sprinkles to give the bottom part of the cake a pop of colour! We simple just pressed them into the side of the cake and scattered some of them around the stand.
And there you have it, your very ow Katherine Sabbath inspired cake bursting with colour! Now if you don’t mind, I’m going to grab myself a slice right now! Cake for breakfast is totally acceptable on your birthday right? xxx
I think I need some sugar 🙂
