RAINBOWS & UNICORNS! A LISA FRANK STYLED SHOOT WITH FREE PRINTABLE RECIPE CARDS!
Well it doesn’t get anymore rainbows and unicorns than this! When Schellie and William of Six Hearts Photography told me they had something they thought we might like, I would never have anticipated, cat ears, unicorn hair, candy all the colours of the rainbow, dancing bears and a free printable recipe card for rainbow pasta!! So naturally I just had to ask them how on earth they had come up with such inspiration.
“When we first had the idea to do a Lisa Frank styled shoot, we knew we hadn’t seen any weddings online in this style. There was just one portrait created by Lisa Frank of a Cat and Dog getting married that kept appearing, and seems to be her only wedding drawing.” explained Schellie.
So this is where it all began – a Pinterest board with this one photo Pinned…
“It was when we found an interview with Lisa Frank featuring a dancing bear and a conversation where she listed all the things her artwork encompassed, including “Rainbows, Hearts, Music Notes, Teddy Bears, Unicorns … Color, Fantasy, Glitz … and everything that makes a kid happy or smile.” we took it and ran with it.”
“Just like Lisa Frank, we love being kids. We felt it only appropriate to have one of the happiest days of your life be extra extra happy and fun.” She added.
“We knew we needed a simple venue with unique flairs, but still a blank canvas, to pull this off without the styles clashing. The Atlanta Contemporary Art Center was perfect – an artist’s themed wedding in an Artist’s place.”
“We kept going back to the photo of the Cat and Dog for inspiration and knew right away that our Bride needed a cat headpiece, so we had one custom designed and our expectations were blown out of the water. We also wanted temporary heart and unicorn tattoos, because that’s classic Lisa Frank.”
“We tried to come up with all things happy for events: confetti, tattoos, puzzles, origami stars, etc, and contacted the most fun vendors we knew to be a part. We honestly just showed this photo and a few others to the vendors involved and told them “color, color, color” and let them run wild with their imagination and talents. Everyone loved the idea so it was easy, really. Colorful foods, colorful pom poms, colorful lighting, colorful drinks, candy drinks, a dancing Bear, Lisa Frank puzzles, and more.”
“When we all arrived at the venue that day, we oohed and ahhed over everyone’s bringings and then collaborated to put it all together. And then we danced.”
“When it comes to color, many are afraid and we’re really not sure why? Simply do not be afraid, embrace the color – all the colors, even!” advised schellie.
“Personally we think a two color palette, for example: green and purple, is too little, whereas 4 or more is a good number for a colorful palette. Heck, why not use 5, 6, 7 or 11! Actually when you think about it, limiting yourself to any number of colors is a hindrance. Maybe we should all stop thinking this way and let our parties explode with happiness.”
So what you can do, if you’re feeling hesitant, about colour? “Choose shades of colors rather than specific colors. For example, you may say you want “bright” colors, or “pastel” colors, or “neon” colors, or “deeply saturated” colors. This decision can better narrow down your choices when collecting and creating supplies, to create a cohesiveness to your colorful event.”
“Another tip would be to pull out, or google, the Artist’s Pocket Color Wheel and just look at it for a bit. Or, you could just go grab a childrens coloring book that’s complete and take tips from a kiddo. Artists inspiration comes from everywhere. Trust your eyes and heart. And keep your Pinterest board on ‘secret’.”
