A BACKYARD FLAMINGO THEMED WEDDING + WHAT YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT TYING THE KNOT IN THE RAIN?
We couldn’t resist sharing this DIY Flamingo themed wedding with you guys today! Sarah & Allan chose to marry in the backyard of a good friend’s home in South Hampton, USA.
“Our friends are a couple who exemplifies a wonderful, strong marriage.” Sarah told us. Keen to be surrounded by those loved ones who had had long and happy marriages, Sarah & Allan chose to marry on a date that fell between each of the parent’s wedding anniversaries. “Allan’s parents celebrated 50 years the week after our wedding whilst my parents celebrated 48 the week before! Two great examples of loving marriage to emulate!!” she added.
Despite the weather forecast Sarah described her wedding day as ‘magical’…
“The weather report said 0% chance of rain for Saturday the 20th for the entire week. (I was literally checking every 5 min.) When I woke up that morning, I knew it was going to rain… but you know what, the rain just added to the fairy tale aesthetic. They always say that rain on a wedding day means good luck and I always thought this was just an old wives tale told to make the “Old Wife” not cry!!! But as a bride, I had researched why this is said to be so just in case it did rain. When a knot is tied then gets wet, it is impossible to untie!! Hence, tying the knot in the rain is a good thing & Allan is definitely stuck with me for life!”
Sarah made most of her details including her bouquet, setup of the dinner tables and her flower crown which she made on the morning of her wedding. “We had so much fun going to Westhampton every weekend for the few months leading up to our big day, finding drift wood to build our arbor, sewing our table runners & banners and eating lots of BBQ, we can’t thank our friends enough for giving us the perfect spot to tie our wet knot!!!”

Why We Love the idea of a Backyard Flamingo-Themed Wedding
A Backyard Flamingo-Themed Wedding? Yes, please! There’s something wonderfully cheeky and playful about this idea that makes it impossible not to smile. Imagine the lush greenery of a backyard setting, dotted with pops of bright pink flamingos, creating a fun and whimsical atmosphere. It’s like your wedding took a vacation to a tropical paradise, minus the plane tickets.
What I love most about a flamingo-themed wedding is the unapologetic boldness of it. It’s not your traditional wedding theme, and that’s exactly why it works so well. It tells your guests right from the start that they’re in for a day that’s anything but ordinary. The flamingo, with its vibrant color and quirky personality, symbolizes grace, balance, and confidence—qualities that can beautifully reflect your love story. It’s a theme that encourages you to let loose, have fun, and embrace the joy of the day.
Plus, the possibilities for decor are endless and delightfully creative. Think pink lawn flamingos, tropical flowers, and maybe even a flamingo-shaped cake topper. You could set up a photo booth with inflatable flamingos and palm trees, letting your guests get in on the fun. And don’t even get me started on the fashion opportunities—imagine the bride rocking a pair of flamingo-pink heels, or the groomsmen sporting flamingo-patterned ties.
But beyond the aesthetic appeal, there’s a deeper reason I’m drawn to this theme. A Backyard Flamingo-Themed Wedding celebrates individuality and a love that’s as unique as the couple getting married. It’s about not taking life too seriously, finding joy in the unexpected, and creating memories that are as colorful and unforgettable as the flamingos themselves.
