We LOVE This Cute & Colorful DIY Wedding in the Netherlands at a Charming Museum!
Amber & Matthijs were married in the Het Dolhuys, a museum located in the beautiful city of Haarlem in the Netherlands! Like the bride we too have fallen in love with this venue, with lots of natural light, fresh colours and modern interior, this is one chic and stylish venue to hold a wedding!
Can we also take a minute to check out Amber’s outfit – I mean wowzers!!! That jumpsuit is all sorts of amazing!!!
“We wanted a young, not too fancy location where all of our guests would feel comfortable, and the museum café was perfect” Amber told us.
“We have a baby on the way, therefore our budget for the wedding was not too big. We had to choose between a relatively big ceremony and dinner with our closest family afterwards, or a small ceremony followed by a party where we could invite everyone we wanted to be there. We chose the last one because celebrating our wedding with all of our loved ones was more important to us than an extensive ceremony. And it paid off because every guest had a really good time that evening, and so did we” She continued.
With a small budget the couple called upon their own talents and the skills of close family and friends to help DIY and personalise their wedding, this included their own stationery, guestbook, food & bouquet.
“We designed the invitations ourselves with the help of a greeting cards website and used wax and a heart shaped stamp to seal the envelopes. For the Instagram hashtag and the polaroid guestbook we made little blackboards and wrote on them with a chalk marker. Before the ceremony we had a buffet and we made all of the food ourselves the day before, like a pasta salad, filled wraps and more. The flower decorations and the bouquet were made by the my mother, who works as a florist at “Bloembinderij Veronica” in Amsterdam.”
“It was really fun to do all of these things ourselves, and everyone said things like “this is so you!”, so that was a nice touch. It was a lot of work but we really liked the end results, and it made us a little bit proud of ourselves :).”
“The cake was designed and made by a friend, Lisette from “Zoet taart enzo” (in English “Sweet cake etc.”). We asked her to make a geometric and colourful cake and she delivered! The cake consisted of soft cake, layers of passion fruit curd, Italian meringue and passion fruit buttercream and the outside was made out of fondant. It was delicious and we have already decided that we want the same cake on our one year anniversary!”
“The day turned out to be exactly as we wanted! The weather was perfect, everything went well, the food was good, the cake delicious, the pictures are amazing and the guests had a great time. We had a great, beautiful and happy wedding day!”
