CHEVRONS, SUCCULENTS & ONE EPIC VW CAMPERVAN WEDDING
My favourite types of weddings are ones where the couple have really gone to town to tell their love story throughout their wedding, the ones where subtle nods are given to mile stones and favourite moments are reflected within the decor! That’s exactly what Nicole & Juan did from their hippy van where it all began to a bouquet made from brooches collected over time and so much more…
FROM THE BRIDE & GROOM…
” When Sean and I got engaged we were so excited to celebrate our love with friends and family in a way that was completely unique to our love story. Sean is a musician and artist and I have always loved color and text based art. We worked together to make sure both of our personalities and loves came through in the wedding, in a way that was specific to our story.
A little bit about the hippy van, before we were dating Sean’s family invited me on a camping trip on the Oregon Coast at the site of an old shipwreck. Over the weekend we were completely rained out of our tents and took shelter in Sean’s hand painted van. That weekend cooped up in that tiny VW playing super Nintendo, sharing meals and conversation, is where it all began, as we realized our feelings were growing from friendship into love.
Per our story, the van played a role in our wedding decor. I found an adorable guest book on Etsy at SayAnythingDesign. Our guest book was a hand drawn van with balloons lifting it into flight. Guests signed the balloons and put them at the end for the strings coming off the van. We have it hanging in our house and I absolutely love it!
The cake topper was a team effort. I looked on Ebay for a miniature van and was elated when I found just the right one. I used tiny Barbie soda cans attached with twine to the back for our little send-off cake topper. My dad made the sign for the side of the cake topper and another friend volunteered to hand paint the tiny VW Van. In the end it came out better than I could have imagined.
Most of our decor was as such, hand-done with ideas we made up, or found online. Our whole family and friends helped us craft and make our little treasures. It was definitely a community effort. We were married on a family Plant Nursery. Our table rounds were made from a tree Sean cut down on the property. The paper flowers for the table toppers were made by friends and family and my aunt collected vintage lace doilies for the tables. The entire year before the wedding, I collected vintage broaches from antique shops and assembled my broach bouquet with the help of my bridesmaids the day before the wedding. I love the result of what everyone brought together.
A little bit about the photographer we chose. We chose Becca Blevins Photography, because after viewing so many photographers portfolios, we loved the fact that she was able to customize her style to the client. We both love vivid color but also loved the vintage style, and didn’t want to have to decide between one. As we are both artistic souls, we wanted our wedding to reflect that in our photography. Becca played off all of the elements of our wedding, in shooting style and post-processing. When I look at my wedding pictures, I sometimes I think I’m looking at my parent’s old polaroid wedding album rather an my own!”

What’s So Special About a VW Campervan Wedding?
There’s something undeniably charming about a VW Campervan Wedding. The nostalgia, the whimsy, the sense of adventure – it all comes together to create a wedding experience that’s both unique and delightfully unconventional. But what exactly makes a VW Campervan Wedding so special?
First, let’s talk about the sheer vintage appeal. Those classic Volkswagen campervans have a way of transporting you back to a time when road trips meant freedom, exploration, and a spirit of “anything goes.” Bringing that energy to a wedding sets a fun and relaxed tone right from the start. Unlike the traditional limousine or classic car, the campervan offers a touch of playfulness that resonates with couples looking to break away from the norm. You’re not just arriving at your wedding; you’re making a statement – and it’s a wonderfully bold one.
A VW Campervan Wedding also adds an intimate, cozy element to the day. With their retro interiors, these campervans are like mini sanctuaries on wheels. Picture this: you, your partner, and your closest friends huddled inside the van, sipping champagne and laughing as you roll up to your ceremony. It’s like a secret clubhouse with wheels, and it creates unforgettable moments that go far beyond the standard “ride to the venue.” My friend Lucy did this for her wedding, and the photos of everyone crammed into the campervan, laughing and clinking glasses, are some of my absolute favourites from that day.
The versatility of a VW Campervan Wedding is another perk. These vintage vehicles can double as incredible photo backdrops, charming bars, or even a quaint lounge area for guests to relax. I’ve seen campervans transformed into boho photo booths filled with props and fairy lights, adding a magical touch to the reception. You can dress them up with flowers, bunting, or a “Just Married” sign to match your wedding theme – they’re like a blank canvas for your creativity.
Lastly, the symbolism behind a VW Campervan Wedding is truly heartwarming. It represents adventure, spontaneity, and the road ahead. It’s as if you’re saying, “Here’s to all the journeys we’re going to take together.” For couples who want a wedding that reflects their free-spirited love and desire for life’s adventures, a VW campervan isn’t just a mode of transport – it’s a promise of the exciting ride ahead.
The groom looks superb all in white. More people should do this!
