WHEN THE CARNIVAL COMES TO TOWN…
Now that you are engaged, you will probably find yourself looking all over the place for inspiration for your wedding, whether it it be the real weddings on blogs or the latest trend guides in magazines but have you ever thought of checking out styled shoots for a little bit of inspo?? We absolutely love sharing them here because unlike real weddings, vendors have total freedom to go all out and create something epic, no holds barred. Personally I think it’s a great way to not only get an idea of the suppliers personality but is also a great way to get your own creative juices flowing, the realisation that they sky really is the limit.
One of our favourite photographers, Schellie from Six Hearts Photography, tells us why she loves to work on styled shoots, “We love working with other professionals, so when an idea comes to mind, we jump on a chance to be creative with our “Friendors” for an non commissioned project where we have full creative freedom. We call them “Inspiration Collaborations”.
“On this occasion we drove past a sign stuck in the grass on the side of the road that said the carnival was in our town, it was one of those automatic light bulb moments for us, and this shoot was brought to conception. Who doesn’t love a good carnival?”
“We decided to keep the shoot simple and came up with a few descriptive words to keep the flow going – fun, flirty, colorful, whimsical, dreamy, and vintage. With those words in mind, we pulled a vintage thrift store dress from our studio closet with a big bow on the back and length that fell just below the knee. We grabbed some neon Converse, did hair and makeup, and went and had some fun. We thought it would be cute to use the carnival wristband as an anklet instead, so it wouldn’t distract from the outfit on her wrist but rather add some uniqueness to it.”
“We didn’t go with any particular shots or goals in mind other than to have fun and do what we felt organically. The balloons were perfect for the setting (when aren’t colorful balloons perfect?!) and we hit up all the major rides – carousel, swings, slides, and even some games so we could get a big stuffed animal.”
“We want to inspire brides to do fun things on their wedding day, or even for bridal portraits, like carnivals, bowling, go karts, put put golf, whatever. We love activities and fun!”
