YOU WILL NEED:
Plain white mugs (we got ours for 90p each from Sainsbury’s) // Gold spray paint (We used rustoleum) // Masking tape // Newspaper // A Cricut Explore and Gold Vinyl* // Wifey template PDF or JPEG // Hubby template PDF or JPEG //
*Please note: We’re using the Cricut Explore to cut out the wifey and hubby templates out of gold vinyl, if you don’t have a Cricut machine then you could try adhering some gold stickers with some sort of strong glue but we have no idea how well that would work or how long the stickers would remain on the mugs so we really recommend using the gold vinyl!
STEP 1:
Using your masking tape, create a geometric shape on the bottom half of the mug and cover the rest of the mug up with your newspaper to keep it protected from the spray paint.
STEP 2:
Spray paint the bottom part of your mug gold, allow to dry and then repeat with a second coat.
STEP 3:
Once that’s completely dry remove the masking tape to reveal a beautiful gold geometric shape on the base of your mug!
STEP 4:
Next it’s time to get cutting out the words, upload your wifey/hubby templates to the Cricut design space, adjust them to the size that fits your mugs and set the Cricut to vinyl. Then load in your mat with gold vinyl and watch the magic happen as it cuts out your letters!
STEP 5:
Finally, carefully remove your letters (using transfer tape makes this process super easy) and place them straight onto your mug, rubbing over the design firmly.
Voila! Now you have a beautiful hand decorated mug perfect for your morning tea or coffee! Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go boil the kettle… xx
