5 KEY THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN WORKING WITH WEDDING SUPPLIERS
So far the wedding planning has been going well, and your pretty sure you have found all the suppliers you need for your wedding based on the hours of research you have put in to assess their skills and expertise. You are optimistic, and now looking forward to seeing them spring into action, ready for the big day.
So is there anything more you can do to ensure the lead up to your wedding and the day itself goes off without a hitch?
It is just as import to build a solid working with relationship with your wedding suppliers as it was spending all those hours researching them in the first place. It’s natural that you want to take a step back once you have booked and paid, it is after all why we book these services in the first place to take the pressure off ourselves. Just as for others it’s natural to want to call suppliers every now and again to ensure you are receiving the service you have paid for. But where does one line end and the other begin. When does doing enough become too much or too little?
Here are some important points to keep in mind:
BE CLEAR AND CONCISE
Communication is key! When talking with your supplier, make a list of all the key points and make sure you go through each of them individually. Ask your supplier questions or for their opinion to make sure you are both singing from the same hymn sheet. It is also important to keep your suppliers updated with any additional information or developments as they arise, but remember to only tell them information that is useful to their service.
Finally, remember that wedding suppliers are often very busy with other weddings, especially in peak season, so if you don’t get a response right away, don’t be tempted to be pushy for a reply.
NURTURE YOUR RELATIONSHIP
If you have chosen to someone based on their personality and style then their is a good chance you are on the path to striking a good relationship already and it’s not surprising for some couples to go on to become great friends with some of their wedding suppliers. This is great and goes a long way in ensuring you absolutely get what you ask for on your wedding day.
BE PROFESSIONAL
It is however, important to maintain a ‘professional’ working relationship whilst planning your wedding. Build on this by trusting their judgement and expertise, they have of course done this dozens of times and will be able to offer sound advice on what will work and what wont. Always remember to be honest, if your not sure about something speak up and air your thoughts, now is not the time to be shy. Finally and it should probably go without saying, always treat your supplier with respect, this goes for their personal lives to, try to keep calls within their normal working hours and respect their preferred method of contact.
BE ORGANISED
One of the most important things for wedding suppliers is to be organised, which means you need to be organised to. Make sure you provide your suppliers with written briefs so that no piece of vital information can be missed out, supply the correct details and times and a full wedding day running order.
Set reminders to keep track of payment dates and always pay invoices on time. Reply to emails in a timely fashion and always adhere to contracts.
DON’T FORGET TO SAY ‘PLEASE’ & ‘THANK YOU’
Yes you might be paying your supplier for a service but it takes very little to be polite. Taking the time to thank people for their help can really go a long way in making someone feeling appreciated and can be the difference between breezing through the wedding planning process and not.
