DIY THIS SUGAR SKULL HALLOWEEN WREATH

What’s that I hear you cry? A wreath? Not at Christmas? Oh yes we totally went there! And while we’re on the subjects of unique wreaths do you guys remember our DIY candy wreath and our super sparkly sequin wreaths from last year?! We loved them making them so much that we thought why not get creative and make a Halloween themed wreath to hang on the door? We stuck with our favourite bright and bold colours and added in some sugar skulls to create a ‘Day Of the Dead’ theme for this one! Here’s how you can make your own…

YOU WILL NEED:

Small plastic sugar skulls (or plain skulls if you can’t find any, you can always decorate them with a few colourful sharpies! We got these ones from Paperchase though!) // Colourful cardstock to make the flowers (or faux flowers if you’re prefer not to make them) // A polystyrene wreath (this one was from Hobbycraft) // Orange spray paint (We used Rustoleum) // A glue gun //

STEP 1:

Start by spray painting your wreath orange and allow to fully dry. Then add a second coat and allow this to fully dry too. This will mean if there’s any gaps between the flowers or skulls you won’t see any of the white polystyrene, the orange will disguise it much better!

STEP 2:

Next, make all of your flowers out of card stock, If you already have faux flowers you can skip this step! I made these ones on the Cricut machine using some of their flower templates, then rolling them up so they formed the flower shapes. You’ll want around 120 flowers varied in size for a 30cm sized wreath.

STEP 3:

Now it’s time to start glueing! I found it best to glue the sugar skulls in first and then start glueing all of the flowers around them, keep going, varying the sizes and colours of the flowers as you go so that not two the same are next to each other until the wreath is completely filled!
