Bright Lights and Big Rides: How to Plan a Luna Park Wedding That’s Full of Colour and Fun!
We do have a tendency to lean towards the weird and wonderful when we feature styled shoots on Bespoke Bride – we love to surprise you with alternative choices for your wedding and today’s inspiration is no exception. What would you say if we told you it was possible to get married at a fairground!! Designer and planner, Melanie chose an amusement park simply because she knew it was somewhere that everyone was sure to have a good time!
“When I meet with clients; ambiance, memorable details and a good party is top of mind.” She told us.
“So we took those must-haves and brought it to the next level.” She continued.
“The theme for this shoot was high colour and high vibe! We wanted to show couples that you can use a ton of colour and a unique location without sacrificing on “wedding style”. This styled shoot still encompasses all the elements you see at traditional weddings but with flare and uniqueness you won’t find at your typical venue or location. I also feel lots of people are afraid of colour and we wanted to let them know, that done right, colour is the way to go!” Melanie explained.
“It’s so simple to include colour into your day! I always recommend using accent pieces such as stationery and signage. Your Welcome sign, table numbers and menu cards can be your “loud” statement pieces. You can also mirror those fun elements and colours on your dessert table and with fun colored signature cocktails at the bar! The options are truly endless if your not afraid of going outside the box. If your not sure how to infuse the colour into your event, work with a professional event designer or graphic designer who can guide you through the process.” She added.
“This theme would be the perfect fit for a private property tent wedding! Bring on the lawn games, food trucks, and maybe even a bouncy castle…. Another perfect backdrop for this type of event would be a Mexican restaurant, something with colour and personality already infused.”

Planning Your Dream Luna Park Wedding: Fun, Whimsy, and Unforgettable Memories
When I first heard the idea of a Luna Park wedding, my mind immediately conjured up images of carnival rides, neon lights, and the unmistakable sound of laughter and joy. Picture this: the bride in her sparkling white dress, twirling under a Ferris wheel, and guests sipping cocktails while taking their turn on the rollercoaster. Sounds like a dream, right? But what does it really take to turn this playful, whimsical idea into reality? Buckle up, because planning a Luna Park wedding is a ride in itself—one that’s thrilling, full of surprises, and guaranteed to leave you with unforgettable memories.
The Allure of a Luna Park Wedding
Let’s face it: the traditional wedding venue, with its stiff ballrooms and somber chandeliers, doesn’t quite suit everyone. If you’ve ever wanted to break away from the norm, an amusement park offers something uniquely captivating. A Luna Park wedding is more than just a celebration—it’s a full-fledged event that combines nostalgia with the excitement of a theme park. The bright colors, the infectious energy, and the sheer fun of it all create a wedding atmosphere like no other.
I’ve seen couples go for the typical hotel ballroom, and, while those weddings are beautiful, they often lack that certain spark. A Luna Park wedding, however, offers the chance to let your personalities shine. After all, a wedding is supposed to be a reflection of who you are as a couple—so why not make it a little quirky? Imagine saying “I do” with the thrill of a rollercoaster in the background and the scent of cotton candy filling the air. It’s like bringing your childhood joy into adulthood, and that’s exactly what I love about it.
The Magic of Location: Choose Wisely
Not every amusement park is the right fit for a wedding. While Luna Parks are often iconic and full of charm, it’s essential to pick the right one. Look for a location that suits the vibe you’re going for—whether it’s vintage, retro, or contemporary. Sydney’s Luna Park, for example, with its breathtaking views of the Harbour Bridge, offers a mix of nostalgia and modern luxury. Meanwhile, smaller Luna Parks or those located near the beach could provide a fun yet intimate setting.
One thing I’ve learned from planning weddings at unique venues is that logistics are key. The park’s size matters: you want to make sure there’s enough space for your guests, and that the location is easy to access. Think about how you’ll set up your ceremony space—will it be near the Ferris wheel, on the boardwalk, or in a dedicated event area? Make sure the park is open during your wedding hours or that you can book it exclusively for your big day. You don’t want your ceremony interrupted by a parade of visitors looking for the nearest funnel cake stand.
The Fun of Planning the Details
One of the biggest perks of a Luna Park wedding is the sheer variety of décor options available. It’s like having a blank canvas in a world full of color. You can go bold with neon lights, carnival signs, and whimsical centerpieces. Don’t be afraid to embrace color—this isn’t a wedding where muted tones are the star. Think about adding fun elements like carnival games, vintage fair posters, or even a candy bar stocked with all your favorite sweet treats.
But here’s the thing: a Luna Park wedding might be all about fun, but it doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style. Sure, you can have a giant, colorful balloon arch, but don’t forget those elegant touches that will make your day special. Mix in vintage glassware, chic lounge seating, and lush florals to create a balance between fun and sophistication. It’s all about making the space feel like your space, even if the park is already packed with excitement.
The Food: Fun and Flavorful
Here’s where things get really fun: the food! Gone are the days when wedding menus had to include the same old dishes. A Luna Park wedding screams for food that matches the whimsy of the venue. Think food trucks serving gourmet grilled cheese or wood-fired pizza, cotton candy in every color of the rainbow, and gourmet popcorn stations. For drinks, why not serve up some signature cocktails inspired by your favorite rides or themes?
And let’s not forget the dessert table. At a Luna Park wedding, you can get creative with sweets. Consider a doughnut wall or a carousel-themed cake that reflects the vibrant atmosphere of the park. If you want to throw in a little nostalgia, go ahead and serve funnel cakes, corn dogs, and snow cones.
The Entertainment Factor
The beauty of a Luna Park wedding is that your entertainment is built right in. You don’t have to hire a separate band or DJ to fill the space because you’ve already got music, rides, and games to keep your guests entertained. Imagine your guests enjoying the thrills of the bumper cars or riding the Ferris wheel to see the sunset. For those who love a good challenge, a ring toss or a whack-a-mole game can get the competitive juices flowing.
Of course, timing and coordination are everything. A Luna Park wedding requires a bit of strategy when it comes to ensuring everything runs smoothly. Work with the staff to schedule ride times, and make sure you have exclusive access to the park’s best attractions for your guests to enjoy. I’ve seen couples struggle with too many crowds during their event, but with proper planning, you can minimize interruptions and keep the fun flowing seamlessly.
Fashion That Works
When you’re planning a Luna Park wedding, your attire should reflect the lively spirit of the event. While you don’t need to show up in a clown costume (unless, of course, that’s your thing), think about comfort. If you’re going to be hopping on rides, you want something that lets you move. That might mean going for a more relaxed wedding dress or even wearing a jumpsuit. And don’t forget the shoes! No matter how much you love those sky-high heels, Luna Park is a place for fun, and you’ll want to be able to run and jump and dance without worrying about a fashion emergency.
The Surprises: A Luna Park Wedding Is Never Boring
Planning a Luna Park wedding is an adventure—every step of the process is full of surprises. One minute you’re choosing your favorite cotton candy flavor for the reception, and the next, you’re looking at a rollercoaster photo opportunity that’s perfect for your wedding pictures. The best part? The memories you’ll make. Every time you and your guests look back on your special day, you’ll think about the joy and excitement that came with it.
At the end of the day, a Luna Park wedding isn’t just about saying “I do”; it’s about creating an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. It’s quirky, fun, and 100% you. And that’s what makes it the perfect place to start your happily ever after.
What an amazing day, pictures look beautiful.
