THIS BRIDE IS INSPIRING WOMEN TO WEAR THEIR GLASSES ON THEIR WEDDING DAY
Growing up Samantha Ashworth, with her brown hair, brown eyes and very average build, classed herself as just ‘average’. She didn’t know at the time that finding out she would need to wear glasses after she left high school, could be a sign that she was destined to be anything but.
It wasn’t until years later, as she was planning for her dream wedding that she realized she wasn’t meant to be average, she was meant to be whatever she wanted to be!
After she graduated, Samantha found herself working at an optical lab, where she was introduced to tons of different frames and fell in love with her glasses even more.
“When I got out of high school and had to have glasses to read the white board I thought “yes! I get to have glasses! I’d always loved them!” says Samantha.
When her now husband proposed, there was no question that she’d also be wearing glasses on their big day!
“My husband has never seen me without glasses, he loves them and thinks they’re sexy.” she told us.
“Most of my glasses wearing friends wore contacts for their wedding and they suggested I try them, even my hair dresser/ best friend tried to convince me but I’ve never even owned a pair of contacts because I love my glasses so much so it simply wasn’t an option.”
Samantha explained how she wore her glasses every day and to not wear them to her wedding would make her look and feel different.
“That’s not what I wanted to capture. I wanted our wedding to be intimate and real.” she said.
Samantha knew she wanted a special colour to go with her ivory, champagne, slight blush colored dress and she eventually found a pair of adorable rose gold frames.
“My advice would be try a few different pairs of glasses on first, it’s just like picking out a dress. I thought I had an idea of what I wanted, then when I tried mine on thinking “these won’t look good”, I fell in love.”
Samantha gave a lot of consideration to how she would accessorize with her glasses: “I don’t wear jewelry or even earrings, so my glasses really were my biggest accessory. If you are going with a dramatic rim like I did, I would suggest simple jewelry unless of course, it’s your every day style.”
Samantha also wanted to show that glasses really shouldn’t effect the style of makeup you choose on your wedding day. “I wore the style of makeup I liked. Photography wise it’s better to do it a little darker so it shows up, but it’s all about personal preference” she added. “I loved my false lashes and thought they looked great with my glasses. I guess you just have to be careful how close your glasses sit to your eyes. I’ve never had an issue though. I wore falsies for my bridals portrait, engagement and wedding photos.”
“Samantha really was a dream bride.” her photographer told us. “From our first meeting she knew exactly what she wanted and how she wanted it. She loved the classic look but also had her own unique sense of of style as well.”
It matters alot to us that Samantha agreed to be interviewed for this article today. The aim of Bespoke Bride is to represent all types of people as we know how limited in options the wedding industry can sometimes feel. Having people such as Samantha share their story is important to those who are planning a wedding to believe in themselves and prove that it really is possible to do your wedding your way.

Thanks for this article. I’m getting married in less than two weeks and I have had people say to get rid of the glasses. I wore contacts for a large portion of my adulthood but over the last few years my eyes are so dry I can’t stand to wear themS. I picked out a frame that wasn’t as bold as my previous black frame. I go from liking them to really questioning them. I want to look like me and for the last few years me has been with glasses. My soon to be husband tells me everyday that I’m beautiful no matter what!
I came across this article when I was looking for advice on glasses for my wedding next year. I agree that you will feel and look different on your big day. My fiance loves a girl with glasses and tells me I look sexy as well. I was told that a clear frame will look good in pictures, but I think I might try a rose gold color like this for my ivory/champagne gown. This bride is so pretty. Thank you so much for writing this article. I’m so glad I found it 🙂
