COACHELLA INSPIRED DANCE PARTY WEDDING IN THE DESERT
Vivian and Brian’s Coachella Inspired wedding was full of color and surprises! As avid Coachella goers, nothing was conventional about their day and it was totally unique to them. Their hilarious wedding hashtag was inspired by Brian’s middle name (Kendall) and Vivian’s last name (Djen) to create #kendalldjener. Their hashtag was featured on sunglasses for the guests to use on this sunny Palm Springs day. Renting a VRBO nicknamed the ‘Chella Nylon Party House’ everything had that Coachella feel from start to finish.
Vivian opted to wear a fabulous colorful and sparkly Rent the Runway dress which perfectly matched her personality. They didn’t walk down the aisle or do any traditional “I do’s”. Instead, once all their guests were seated they walked out together from inside the house onto the front lawn holding hands. Instead of saying ‘I do’ they repeated the lyrics to Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Would Suck Without You” to each other while their friends and families laughed and smiled.
Brian personally crafted a perfectly timed light show set to a playlist for their reception that took him 6 months! This crowd came ready to party and their guests even surprised Vivian and Brian with a flashmob dance routine at the end of the toasts. Their friends then brought out a cake to surprise them with as Vivian and Brian had originally wanted to forgo that tradition. As the party went on the glow-sticks and light up balls came out as some guests started jumping in the pool. A joyous occasion filled with so much love from friends and family who helped out with as many aspects of the day as they could.
Enjoy!
“My husband and I have loved going to Coachella with my sisters and have grown to love the desert landscape,” began Vivian.
“We decided sometime summer 2018 that we wanted to get married April 2019. So we arranged to visit several houses during a trip to California in August. We wanted bright colors and a fun vibe all around, a desert chic dance party which would be the focus of the entire event. We wanted a chill event, short ceremony, no seated dinner – just more hanging out, playing games and dancing.”
“We chose a VRBO rental because we wanted to really make a whole weekend out of it, our close friends stayed with us and other friends got houses in the area, so we had people coming in and out all weekend to hang by the pool. This did mean however that none of our vendors were able to visit the venue before the event and we were just working off of photos on the VRBO listing. In fact, we had only visited the venue one time, for maybe 20 minutes, 8 months before our wedding, so we didn’t really know the space at all. But it all worked out!” Vivian told us.
“What we didn’t plan for was the wind/sand storm that happened that day, which caused us to rearrange our plans for the dance party!”
“Thankfully our planner Aletha of Romance and Revelry was recommended to us so we knew she would be great! She was instrumental in helping us choose our photographer, Julie Shuford, who was fantastic – we LOVE our photos! I chose a caterer by doing some cold calling and from our first conversation I knew Suzy Gourmet would be a great fit since she asked me so many good questions about what I was looking for. Aletha also helped us coordinate with Signature Party Rentals for our tables and chairs,” she explained.
“Aletha helped keep us on schedule and make sure we had everything we needed, we originally thought we only needed a day-of planner, but quickly realized that we needed her for more than just day-of. Most importantly, Aletha made me the most beautiful bouquet and was amazing with the flowers (which we got from Costco).”
“An artist friend designed our invitations, which helped the rest of the graphics come together. I used a palm tree and sunglasses pattern she painted, as well as a “logo” that a graphic designer friend had created for our engagement party as inspiration for our website, a cornhole set, framed photographs for each table, the buffet signs, etc. We also ordered bright colored custom sunglasses (and asked our guests not to bring sunglasses since they would be provided), which made our photos extra colorful. My husband also learned how to mix songs and programs lights for our dance party!” she added.
“My advice really is to make sure the whole weekend really represents YOU! We knew we wanted something unique and memorable. Even though I loved my wedding dress (a rainbow colored dressed from Rent the Runway), I still spent hours looking at white wedding dresses and fretting over whether or not I should just get a white dress since that’s just what you’re supposed to do, and I’m so happy I went with rainbow. Whenever anyone mentions how special they thought our wedding was, it really warms my heart!”
