EMILY’S PALM SPRINGS THEMED HEN PARTY
I know what you’re thinking…What? I thought you guys went to Italy for Em’s hen do? Well you’d be correct my friend but we also wanted to throw a fun filled hen party bash here in the UK for all the gals that couldn’t make the trip abroad! For as long as me and Em started Bespoke Bride we’ve wanted to visit Palm Springs and truth be told it would have been the dream hen party location for Em but finances just would not allow, soooo I figured I would bring Palm Springs here for the second hen!
First things first I had to find a venue and I just so happened to be watching one of my friend’s instagram stories one day when I saw her in the most beautiful cafe filled with greenery and plants from The Aroid Attic and I just KNEW that had to be the location! I shot them a quick message on instagram asking if they’d allow us to hire the space for the evening and they were just as excited about the event as I was! Botanica Coffee Kitchen were sooooo amazing not only at curating and testing a Palm Springs themed menu before but they just GOT IT, they even bought plates and bowls especially for the event to help create the vision and I honestly could not be more thankful to them! The food and cocktails were also FREAKING INCRED but more on that later…
For the decorations I headed straight to Etsy obviously, the first thing I did was just search ‘Palm Springs’ to see what would come up and immediately I knew I NEEDED these drink stirrers from California Lustre, it’s all in the details let me tell you guys! I ordered 3 different sets, one pink, one yellow and one orange as I knew that was the three main colours I wanted to focus on. Next up, gold metallic straws, no explanation needed, they’re just cool. I then ordered some pastel pink napkins for the table, again just to tie in the pink Palm Springs theme more and I’ve gotta be honest I was pretty impressed with my napkin folding skills on the night! Ha!
The only thing that worried me slightly was not having enough colour in the decor, I knew we would have plenty of green from the plants, cacti and succulents but I just wasn’t sure that the peach, pink and yellow theme was tied in enough. I decided that I wanted to add more colour not just to the table but to the room somehow, and then the idea of hanging colourful acrylic from the beams hit me, I knew it would work perfectly to add more pops of colour and a bit of height to the table. Do you think I could find colourful acrylic shapes on Etsy though? No siree I could not. I emailed several Etsy suppliers who just couldn’t help me until finally, FINALLY, there was Ink and Adler.
Amy got back to me right away and went above and beyond for me to help with what I had in mind, she sent me colour samples online of different acrylic she could get hold of and was more than happy to cut out my hexagon shapes that I was hoping for (you know how much we love geometric shapes here!) and then, when I asked if it was at all possible to cut me out a palm leaf she floored me by getting hold of a special machine that she could use to cut the custom shape I wanted and even put the quote ‘Shake your palm palms’ on for me. How awesome?! It hands down tied in the decor and colour scheme!
Menus and place cards that we put on the table were custom designed by Spotted Donkey Ink and of course I went for a cacti theme to keep those Palm Springs vibes going! They worked perfectly placed on top of the pretty pastel plates! The more the table decor was coming together in my mind the more I was thinking about what sort of runner I could use, once again Etsy prevailed with it’s amazing skilled sellers. Seriously, don’t even get me started on the insane macrame table runners that Bobella Co handmade for us and even got to us on our tight deadline, they looked so incredibly beautiful against the wooden tables and the quality of them were just incredible!
Right, now let’s talk about that amazing food and drink shall we?! Not only did Emelye from Botanica ensure we had Prosecco for arrival but she got raspberry syrup and strawberries to make it pink and wait for it…GLITTER. Talk about going the extra mile right?! They looked and tasted amaze! For cocktails we had a choice of a gin based drink or vodka and both went down an absolute hit with all the girls, (like seriously we must have drunk so much! ha) not to mention they looked super cute in the glasses with our new Palm Springs stickers (which you can totally buy here by the way!) The food…YOU GUYS THE FOOD…It was honestly some of the best vegan food I’ve ever tasted. Now Botanica obviously offer non-vegan food at their cafe but for us they put on an entire vegan spread and all the non vegans at the table wolfed it down like it was their favourite thing ever too! To start we had a Californian Rainbow Mezze which consitsted of vegan tacos with pineapple salsa, beetroot hummus, turmeric hummus, crispy kale, pita bread and guac! To be honest, I’d have been more than happy if the meal ended there because it was so dam tasty but then came the main course and wowzers those flavours! Botanica served us a Watermelon Poke Bowl with noodles, seaweed, red cabbage, marinated tempeh and more! Then if that wasn’t enough out came the gooey raspberry chocolate brownie topped with candy floss and we were all blown away!
When Emily and all the girls arrived I was so nervous! Ha! I don’t know why because I knew she would love it but I think it’s just like the adrenaline of having been planning something for so long and then it all finally coming together! We had such an amazing night and I wish we could go back and do it again! I am so so pleased that we had Dakes from Dakeney Fox Photography there to photograph the event meaning I could just relax and enjoy the moments without having to think about whether we had enough shots! She captured so many beautiful memories for us and it certainly was a night we won’t ever forget!
