HOW THESE COLLEGE SWEETHEARTS CREATED A SOUTHERN & SWEET SHABBY CHIC WEDDING
Lindsey and Austin have sweetest love story! Check this out, they met during college in Troy, Alabama when Austin just so happened to be riding by on his scooter when Lindsey caught his eye. But it gets even sweeter! Austin proposed, in the very same spot where he first asked Lindsey to be his girlfriend! In the children’s section of a museum, where he wrote on a chalk wall, ‘Will you marry me?’ It was Lindseys favorite place growing up, so this will forever hold so many special memories for the couple.
“For our wedding day, I wanted a theme that matched our personalities: southern and sweet!” Lindsey began.
“Everything was silly and fun, just like us, with a touch of class thanks to our vendors. We also wanted a feel that was romantic and chic. I personally love vintage touches, so the décor (such as the vintage couches and chairs already at the venue) just added to that vibe. I wanted whimsical lights, and The Eclectic Warehouse had the perfect lights already installed. It brought the romantic feel to another level! It was the first and only venue I looked at because it was my exact vision brought to life!”
“The overall color palette was kept simple and natural, focusing on white for most of the décor and incorporating only greenery for the florals and draped on the ceremony backdrop.”
“The reception decor was a little more rustic with a touch of shabby chic as seen in the photo booth and the dresser full of chocolate truffles. We were so lucky to have an incredible wedding planner, Rebecca Griffith (owner of Original Grace Events), who did everything for us. I gave her everything I envisioned, and she made the dream come to life. She recommended our other wonderful vendors, and they all did an incredible job! Although Austin and I were engaged for over two years, the true wedding planning process only took place in the last year leading up to the wedding.” Lindsey explained.
“The wedding décor included many touches, big and small, that honored some of our closest loved ones and added the most personal touches to the day. My bouquet was complete with subtle greenery and my grandmother’s Bible as the focal point. Behind our memory table was a wedding dress display showcasing my mother’s and grandmother’s very own wedding dresses. Mine was hung for photos of all three together at the start of the wedding day. The dresser of cookies and chocolate truffles featured pops of color from spools of thread. Austin’s grandmother is a quilter, so this little touch added something special to the reception décor in her honor.”
“We each wanted to feel our best but also be comfortable. His suit was easy because he wanted a nice blue tux and snazzy shoes. I found my dress at the first shop we went to and only tried on a few before it. The dress really made me feel beautiful, but I also felt like it fit the southern style I was going for. The lace details and the movement of the dress were what made it perfect! I wanted a dress fit for a southern princess, and that’s exactly what I got,” said Lindsey.
“My most anticipated moment of the whole day was walking down the aisle to Austin with my dad about to give me away. It was in that moment that I really felt grateful for all the love in the room, my parents, and how far we had come to get to that moment. The moment I saw him was the absolute best feeling!”
“The only fear Austin and I both had was tripping down the aisle during the ceremony! What’s hilarious is that I actually did trip on my dress as we were walking back down the aisle as husband and wife. My husband had my arm, so no one noticed, but we laughed about it as our inside joke afterwards.” She laughed.
“I don’t think there’s anything I would change about our wedding day. Everything was perfect from the start of the day to the end. We had incredible support on both sides of our families, and our vendors did a fantastic job making sure everything was perfect! The best advice I can give future brides is to enjoy the process and remember at the end of all the craziness that you get to marry your best friend. That’s all that matters at the end of the day anyways!”
