How To Plan an Engagement Proposal: Must-Know Tips for the Big Day
HOW TO HOST A FUN BACKYARD ENGAGEMENT PARTY AT HOME THIS SUMMER
The world is a bit crazy right now, planning anything can be challenging and overwhelming and with many big life events being postponed, the results aren’t only affecting weddings. With over a third of couples getting engaged on their summer holiday, recent events are affecting engagements too.
Keen to inspire couples to make the most of the tricky situation we find ourselves in, photographer Katy Murray and her team of creatives, used items readily available to put together a bright and bold backyard inspired engagement to inspire couples to throw an engagement party that is just as memorable, whilst staying home and staying safe.
“We choose to do this session in a backyard, because right now things are so uncertain.” Katy began.
“Hosting an engagement party in your own backyard allows some flexibility because it is outdoors, and people can spread out,” she continued.
“Doing events outdoors is clearly the new summer trend as indoor events have a lot more restrictions, but t also gave us the opportunity to make the space completely our own.”
“I had two pallets and I wanted to see if they would work for a boho style table, I was worried, but they worked great! We threw some cute colourful pillows down and it made for an intimate dining experience. You can easily buy bright colourful pillow covers online to throw on any couch pillow to make it extra fun and fit the style you want.” Katy told us.
“For a tablecloth we used a pink tablecloth and threw a runner on top to add texture and break things up a bit.”
“The colour palette is all things bright and bold. We used a rich magenta, vibrant green, pops of orange, splashes of teal and turquoise. All these colours blended so well to create a beautiful and vibrant event. The backdrop of our backyard incorporated natural greenery into the event, while also letting natural light do it’s thing.”
“The little jars gave texture and depth to the table and were a sweet spot to put some flowers. The balloon decor took our simple backyard backdrop and made it into a real fun spot to hang out with loved ones while celebrating. Blast some tunes and get dancing. If you had this in the late afternoon you could add some twinkle lights and watch the fireflies dance along with you,” she added.
“The balloon installation added a pop in the background, taking the backyard from simple to grand! The stationery wasn’t the usual rectangular shapes, but instead we did the table number and menu card as circles, while using a geo shape design on the invitation and envelope. Because these were so detailed, the macaroons (which are DELICIOUS) were kept simple with a solid colour for each. Also, with the details of the cookies, the cupcakes were a simpler vibe.”
Wouldn’t this be the cutest backyard engagement session? I think so! And considering the world’s current state, a backyard celebration is perfect.
