THIS COUPLE TURNED THEIR BALLROOM WEDDING INTO A BOHO BACKYARD WEDDING
Sarah and Jake had originally booked a ballroom for their wedding but, once COVID-19 hit and didn’t go away, having an indoor event just didn’t feel safe for them anymore and they were forced to cut their guest list. But, inspired by their love of gardening, the couple decided to pivot and host their wedding in their yard instead.
“Being avid gardeners with a big yard, including raised garden beds and a greenhouse, we decided to host an intimate ceremony and celebration in our yard! When we first got engaged, we decided to grow all our own flowers for our wedding, so hosting the event in our garden that we put so much love into just made sense.” Sarah began.
“Naturally, one fear/worry dominated all others – COVID-19. We made it our number one priority to keep our loved ones safe and put every precaution known to man in place… masks, hand sanitizer, wipes, distanced tables, etc, but of course, there was no guarantee. Luckily, nobody was infected so that was a success!”
“We didn’t really choose a theme but made decisions based on our personalities and style. That, combined with our change of plans, resulted in a vibe that could be described as an eclectic and romantic garden party,” she told us.
“The flowers were all grown by me and arranged by my talented mother and mother in law, whilst the food was done by my husband, who is a chef, and the signs and place markers were all hand drawn by my sister.”
“We found our photographer, Khali Titsch on Instagram and immediately fell in love with her portfolio. A couple of DM’s and a phone call later and she was ours! The baker for our cake was an old friend of our officiant and dear friend, who started her own baking company a few years back. I got my dress at a local for-charity shop called Brides for a Cause, who I found through a quick google search.” Sarah explained.
“We didn’t hire a wedding planner. Jake and I planned the entire thing on our own with the guidance of my mom, sister, and countless spreadsheets. Day of, pretty much everyone helped in some way or another, whether it was moving tables, serving food, or cleaning up, it was all hands-on deck!”
“Before the wedding, we really wished that we had just postponed. We felt that we were losing out on so much by cancelling our venue and cutting our guest list down to the bare minimum. But, afterwards, we were so thrilled with the way everything turned out, that we laughed and thought, why did we think we needed the big wedding we originally planned?”
“Whatever you do, don’t let the stress take over your planning… keep it fun! Stay true to your style, even if it isn’t what you see on Pinterest, and don’t forget to saber all the champagne! It makes for great photos.”

It Was Magical! Great friends and family from all over USA…. small in number because of restrictions but hearts filled with Love for this precious Couple. The yard seemed to come alive as the first note played. Beautiful soft sunlight through branches…even birds sat on the wooden fence as the sweet ceremony began. Dreaming, planning & work, created Memories forever for All of us….but especially for this couple, as they carry those moments forever ❣️ ❤️❤️
I have never seen, what appears to be, hops on the groom’s boutonniere. If that’s indeed what they are then that is amazing!
