THE CUTEST DIY CHRISTMAS CRACKERS (WITH FREE PRINTABLE TEMPLATE!)
I know we have a big American audience on this blog and some of you might be reading this like ‘Christmas Crackers? What the heck?’ but these are so traditional in the UK to have on Christmas Day I just had to make a DIY of them! If you haven’t heard of them before they’re basically a kind of….festive favour? They’re actually hard to describe now I’m trying to ha but they’re traditionally filled with a Christmas themed joke, a small gift or toy and a party hat!
Of course if you’re making them from scratch then you can fill them with whatever you want! I made these custom ones a couple of years ago for the family and put mini bottles of alcohol and chocolate inside them! Anyway, I’m determined to let the trend carry over into the States so if you feel like a fun Christmas addition to your table then give these a whirl!
YOU WILL NEED:
Cracker snaps // Glue // White card // Scissors // X-Acto Knife // A printer // Jolly cracker template // Merry cracker template // Bright cracker template // Jingle cracker template //
STEP 1:
First you’ll want to print off the Christmas cracker templates onto white card, these will print onto A4 or letter size perfectly. There are 4 designs in total so it’s up to you if you want to use them all or whether you’d prefer to just choose one or two to repeat.
STEP 2:
Next, use your X-acto knife to cut out all of the diamond shapes on the crackers, this will form the outer part of the cracker that rips when you pull each side!
STEP 3:
Once you’ve removed all of the diamond shapes, cut out the actual cracker with your scissors, then score the line where instructed using your X-Acto knife.
STEP 4:
Next glue your cracker snap in to what will be the inside of the cracker, this is so when you pull the cracker with another person it makes that classic SNAP sound we all know and love haha
STEP 5:
Now for the fun part, fill up your cracker with goodies & delights and roll it up towards you, push the flaps into the relevant holes and lightly glue in place.
That’s it! You’re done! Now you just have to resist cracking them open until Christmas Day! Happy crafting! And don’t forget if you want more printables and downloads then we’ve got HUNDREDS of them here!
I love these! I’ve been making my own too in the US! What glue do you like best when securing the snap and the tabs? I’ve tried my glue gun (gets a little messy, but holds), Tacky Glue (doesn’t hold well), and plan to try glue dots. Thanks so much for your fun inspiration! I’m finishing up some Christmas ones and will be making NYE next!
