Beauty DIY: How To Apply The Perfect Base
Oh god. I can’t believe I’m posting a photo of me with zilch make up onto the internet! It is for the greater good though since the lovely Lauren Mason has supplied us with a great tutorial on how to ensure your base is perfected! This is part 1 of a 3 part series with Lauren where we’ll also be giving tutorials on how to create a fresh day look and how to transform your day look into a night look! Ok, over to you Lauren…
Step 1: Ensure your skin has been cleansed and toned free of make up. I used CHANEL Lait Douceur Cleansing Milk and Lancome Tonique Douceur Alcohol Free Toner.
Step 2: Apply your eye cream, only around the orbital bone, the one I have used is Clarins Eye Revive Beauty Flash. Next, apply your serum. Serums are optional and they go straight on to clean skin (before your moisturiser). Serums work deeper in to the skin as they’re more concentrated. On Jess, I used CHANEL Hydramax Concentre Serum which is incredibly hydrating.
(ha! I look like i’m having a great time here!)
Step 3: Next, I would normally apply moisturiser. However instead I applied a Primer which will brighten, tighten and help hold the make up on throughout the day. You can apply both however it’s just adding another layer to the skin and when applying both it can cause the products to roll. I would only really recommend applying both moisturiser and primer if you have very dry skin. On Jess, the primer I used was Clarins Beauty Flash Balm. Ensure you smooth the primer on the face starting in the centre and working outwards. Do not rub the product in as again it can cause the product to roll. Another primer I would recommend is Daniel Sandler Retexturising Face Primer SPF20 which is great for a normal to oily skin. It really smooths the skin out and ensures your make up looks smooth and even.
Step 4: Now you’ve prepped your skin, you can start applying your foundation. On Jess, the foundation I used was CHANEL Pro Lumiere in #30 Cendre for a good coverage and a smooth dewy look. Start from the centre and work the foundation out towards the edge of the face making sure the foundation gets thinner around the edges. Remember, foundation is only ever to even up your skin tone – it’s not a mask! Foundations vary on your skin type, for a more oily skin I would recommend CHANEL Mat Lumiere Long Lasting Foundation.
Step 5: Next, I applied 2 concealers. The first concealer I used was for the under eye area. The best concealer to use is a light reflective product which normally comes in a brush pen. I used Lancome Flash Retouche in #03. Apply the concealer to the dark areas and remember less is more! The more you apply, the darker your undereyes can look. I then used a different concealer for any blemishes or imperfections, I used Estee Lauder Double Wear in #03 Medium.
Step 6: Next, I would normally apply a fine loose powder however I want to keep the skin looking as dewy and fresh as possible. I used a bronzer to add a bit of colour, I used CHANEL Bronze Universel which is in a gel cream consistency and gives a dewy sunkissed look. Use the bronzer where the sun naturally hits the skin which is normally around the forehead, cheekbones, nose and chin. With bronzer, less is more. You can always add more make up but you can never take it away.
You’re done! Pretty simple right? Massive thanks to Lauren Mason for coming in and showing us the tricks of the trade! Make sure you stay tuned for part 2 and 3 coming soon!
Much Bespoke Love
Jessica ♥
