The UK’s Most Incredible Honeymoon Hotels
With your big day coming up, it’s time to get excited about your honeymoon!
You don’t need to travel far to enjoy the honeymoon of your dreams with some of the world’s most romantic hotels right on our doorstep here in the UK. From spoiling subterranean spas in London to a hot tub hidden among the woodlands of the Lake District and farm-to-table foodie retreats in the country to a palatial property popular among royalty, these are some of our favorite honeymoon hotels in the UK.
Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, Oxfordshire
Nestled in the charming Oxfordshire countryside, this honey-coloured house is one of the UK’s most prestigious foodie retreats. With Raymond Blanc’s two Michelin star restaurant complemented by an intimate 32-room Belmond hotel, the long-standing establishment puts an upscale spin on a restaurant with rooms.
Stroll hand-in-hand down a lavender-scented footpath and start your evening with a cocktail in the snug. Then settle down for dinner in the revered farm-to-table restaurant before retiring to one of the individually designed guest rooms, each inspired by Raymond’s travels.
The Samling, Lake District
Sitting 350ft above Lake Windemere within 67 acres of fine English countryside, The Samling offers unrivaled views of the Lake District. For the best perspective, grab a bottle of champagne and make your way to the secluded hot tub hidden in the woodland away from the main building.
And, for those who truly want to get away from it all, book in for the Wilderness Adventure, the hotel’s very own glamping experience with luxury canvas tents fitted with king-size beds and lavish furnishings. Breakfast is served by your personal butler and dinner can be enjoyed under the stars.
The Ned, City of London
With ten restaurants and bars – including a secret subterranean vault – a rooftop swimming pool, and a sprawling underground wellness centre that boasts its very own swimming pool, Moroccan hammam, nail bar, hair salon and barbershop, swanky members club and hotel The Ned is large enough to be a honeymoon destination in its own right.
The basement bars and restaurants are only accessible to members and hotel guests, meaning there are plenty of quiet corners to while away an evening – if you can tear yourself away from your bedroom, that is. Four-poster mahogany beds, marble fireplaces, glassed fronted drinks cabinets and standalone roll-top bathtubs make the vintage-style guest rooms some of the most romantic in London.
The Londoner Hotel, Leicester Square
Hoping to do for Leicester Square what The Ned did for the City of London, the newly opened Londoner Hotel is aptly named. Drawing Londoners back to a piazza that’s long been exclusive tourist territory, the 16-storey ‘super boutique hotel’ is home to 350 guest rooms and 35 suites as well as “some seriously flash amenities” and “zen-like spaces” – as described by Vogue.
Among them include six restaurants and bars, a wellness centre, a cinema, and a members’ club-style space that’s accessible only to hotel guests. Eight storeys sit above ground and eight below, with a hidden wellness sanctuary at the very bottom.
Book in for a romantic Treatment for Two at the spa before smartening up at the on-site hair salon and barbershop ready for a date night at the exclusive guest-only Y Bar or Whisky Room, accessible through a secret door in the powder rooms.
Cliveden, Berkshire
Hoping to feel like a princess on your honeymoon? Look no further than Cliveden. Boasting some serious royal pedigree – Queen Victoria, the Prince of Wales, and Lord Astor all visited, and Meghan Markle stayed the night before her wedding – this National Trust-owned property is arguably the headline act of Britain’s country house hotels.
Each of the 47 guest rooms are dressed in antiques, original artworks and handmade furnishings, and the rest of the house has an authentic palatial aesthetic. A full-service spa with indoor and outdoor pools, sprawling manicured gardens and several dining options mean you’ll have no reason to leave.
Rosewood London, Holborn
Housed within a grand Edwardian mansion, Rosewood London offers country manor glamour right in the heart of the city. An arched passageway leads guests through to a colonnaded courtyard, making for a dramatic first impression, while a classy cocktail bar, spoiling spa and magnificent marble bathrooms are sure to delight once inside.
Newlyweds can look forward to an afternoon spent in the steam room and hammam followed by an evening listening to live jazz by the fire in the cocktail bar. And why not end the day with a romantic bath for two in an oversized marble tub?
Claridge’s, Mayfair
Standing proudly in the heart of Mayfair since 1856, Claridge’s is one of London’s original Grande Dame hotels and has seen everyone from Queen Victoria and Winston Churchill to Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant walk through its famous walnut doors.
Today, it remains one of the city’s most prestigious hotels with classic Art Deco interiors and impeccable service setting the scene for a romantic escape. Be sure to book in for afternoon tea – it’s one of the best in London – and step back in time to the 1920s at The Fumoir, an intimate cocktail bar for those in the know.
St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel, King’s Cross
Heading to Paris on your honeymoon? Start the journey in style with a stay at the landmark St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel. Sitting right next door to St Pancras International station, this historic Victorian hotel is conveniently located for anyone hopping on the Eurostar – the bar even leads directly onto the concourse.
The newly vamped Booking Office 1869 restaurant sits within the station’s former ticket hall, and with a vaulted ceiling, soaring brick walls and grand arched windows, it makes for an impressive date-night spot.
The St. Pancras Spa, meanwhile, is one of London’s best-kept secrets with an indoor pool enveloped in colourful Victorian tiles inspired by the Orient. Sitting within the oldest part of the hotel, the luxury Chamber Suites are worth splashing out on.
Lympstone Manor Hotel, Devon
Another one for the foodies, Lympstone Manor is a Michelin-starred restaurant and hotel headed by Devon-born chef, Michael Caines MBE. Overlooking the tranquil Exe estuary – renowned for its candyfloss sunsets – the picture-perfect Georgian mansion puts fine dining at its heart with an a la carte and several tasting menus to choose from as well as afternoon tea and a wine tasting experience in the two basement cellars.
The hotel’s very own vineyard is also set to start producing classic Champagne-method sparkling wines within the next year or two. The Heron Suite boasts two gold bathtubs placed side-by-side while the Shepherds Huts create a romantic woodland setting with outdoor tubs and firepits.
Chewton Glen, Hampshire
Perched to the south of the New Forest, between the market village of Lymington and seaside town Christchurch, Chewton Glen sits among some of the UK’s most charming locations, making it an ideal base for a honeymoon that combines country and coast.
The handsome red brick building houses quintessentially English bedrooms – book one of the hot tub suites for the ultimate romantic experience – while a collection of self-contained treehouses offer a secluded escape among the trees.
The hotel’s award-winning spa has both indoor and outdoor swimming pools along with Europe’s biggest hydrotherapy pool, crystal steam rooms and aromatherapy saunas.
Thyme, Cotswolds
Described as “a village within a village”, this peaceful country retreat is spread across a collection of restored honey-stone farmhouses, cottages, and barns within the quintessential Cotswolds village of Southrop. The botanical Meadow Spa is an idyllic restorative spot complete with its own spring water swimming pool and hot tub while the hotel’s tranquil gardens and farm are perfect for a romantic stroll.
The Ox Barn makes for an atmospheric dinner spot with a vast open kitchen placed against original wood beams and soaring arches, and The Baa serves botanical infusions and cocktails in the former lambing sheds.
Guests can also saunter to The Swan, the hotel’s sister country pub complete with cosy sofas, low-slung ceilings, and roaring fires. It’s no wonder the hotel was named one of ‘The 20 best hotels for grown-up escapes’ by The Times.
The Gleneagles Hotel, Perthshire
If you’re hoping to escape to the Scottish Highlands for your honeymoon, then there’s only one place to stay: The Gleneagles Hotel. Sitting just where the Highlands begin, the plush five-star hotel has something for everyone with several drinking and dining options – including a two Michelin-starred restaurant – a leisure club and full-service spa, and three championship golf courses all on the grounds.
All the individually designed bedrooms offer a taste of luxury, but for a truly indulgent experience, upgrade to one of the suites for large four-poster beds, powder room, complimentary bar, and panoramic views.
Grantley Hall, Yorkshire Dales
On the eastern border of the Yorkshire Dales, a short drive from the postcard-perfect cathedral town of Ripon, the Palladian-style Grantley Hall is the perfect honeymoon escape. For a hotel that only has 47 bedrooms, it boasts a raft of restaurants and high-end facilities, providing ample opportunity for some private romantic moments.
The five on-site restaurants include Shaun Rankin’s fine dining culinary journey and an upscale Asian experience while the spa is home to an 18-metre colonnaded pool, an outdoor cedar hot tub, a snow room and steam room, and its very own dining lounge.
