Beautiful Honeymoon Post Wedding Photo Shoot in the Dolomites in Italy
Nikki & Dawd’s honeymoon adventure and Post Wedding Photo Shoot in the Dolomites in Italy was originally supposed to be a sunset shoot. We’d chosen sunrise for two main reasons – 1, the beautiful morning light in the mountains, and 2, to get quieter trails, since August in the Dolomites is extremely busy.
However, if you’ve ever spent time in the mountains in the summer, you have probably experienced the huge thunderstorms that can roll through. While these storms usually happen in the evenings, it’s also possible for morning storms.
On the day we had planned to adventure, a huge storm was forecast in the morning. With safety being a priority, we switched the shoot to the evening the night before. Rain was on the forecast, but no storms, so we kept everything crossed that the weather would be ok.
It ended up being more than ok. We met in the late afternoon, hoping that we’d be arriving as most people were heading home for the day. And we couldn’t believe our luck. The trails were almost deserted (perhaps other hikers had seen the forecast and headed home early).
While some big clouds passed through, the sun continued to shine and we had a fantastic evening. We explored the area I’d chosen for them, and enjoyed a wonderful evening picnic near a stunning alpine lake.
– A short brief about the couple, what they do, where they live, how they met, etc.
We are both mortgage bankers at Rocket Mortgage. We currently live in Brownstown, Michigan in the United States. We met at work but started talking outside of work when we ran into each other at an art and food festival! We have been together for 5 years and have our first little one on the way!
How & why did they choose their Honeymoon location?
We love to travel and Italy has so much to offer! We wanted to see all of what Italy had to offer so hit all the major places from top to bottom on our honeymoon. We also love Italian food so loved eating our way thru Italy 🙂 We love hiking and going on adventures so we had to stop in the Dolomites.
We had our wedding during COVID so it was smaller and we didn’t have time to do wedding pictures. We decided we wanted to take our love of adventure to the mountain and take our wedding pictures there! When we saw Cat’s pictures online we immediately knew she could capture exactly what we were looking for!
Tell us a bit about the Honeymoon, where exactly, why there, how it was, how long, what was so special, etc.
We started in Venice, went up to Cortina, went to the Prosecco trail, went over to Vermiglio to see more mountains, went to Lake Como, stopped in Bologna, went to Florence and Tuscany, over to La Bruno and down to Polignano, then across to end in Naples and Amalfi!
We had a few places throughout Italy we had as must-sees such as Chalet al Foss in the mountains, seeing the Dolomites, wine tasting in Tuscany, eating at Grotta Palazzese, and seeing the Amalfi coast! We were in Italy for 3 weeks and stayed 1-3 nights at each location.
Every stop we made was so unique and had different things to see which made it very enjoyable! A few stops we made sure were more for relaxation too which was much needed after driving all over. It was so special to us to see the different cultures in the areas and learn about each area more in-depth. It’s always amazing to interact with the local people and learn their stories!
Advice for future couples?
Our advice is to travel together to new foreign areas! It allows you to learn new cultures together and connect on a new level when neither of you knows the full language and what’s going on. You have to depend on each other to get around and figure things out!
Some of our greatest bonding moments were traveling to Thailand where the language is very different but we learned so much about ourselves and others. Also, we HIGHLY suggest doing a post-wedding shoot!
The day you get married is already way too busy with getting ready, and spending time with family and friends, and you don’t have enough time to just be with each other. This shoot with Cat allowed us to relive our wedding day in our wedding attire and just solely focus on each other and our love.
It’s an experience we will never forget and cannot thank Cat enough for her kindness and amazing pictures capturing our favorite day of our honeymoon!
