Here’s more about this lovely wedding from the happy couple:
Q1: Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
To be honest, i didn’t want a wedding. I thought and quite frankly still do, it was a waste of money. But my mom begged me to, she wanted to see her daughter as a bride. My thinking was ‘well what’s one day if it’s going to make my parents happy’.But i didn’t want planning it to take over my life, so, umm…ot much was very carefully thought, we went with instinct mostly. We selected Tremblant because a lot of our story happened there (stephen used to live there). The fall because it’s the most beautiful season in Montreal. The restaurant because it was secluded and surrounded by mountains and because they had a great poutine! The only thing that i thought of very carefully was the date. I love astrology, and i decided Libra season was when i wanted to get married cause it’s the sign of companion ship!
Q2: Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
HAHA! Barely did anything! I really think mother nature did most of the heavy lifting. The fall colors were in full bloom, the restaurant itself is in a great location, plus it’s very cute, we didn’t even touch the main area. The only challenge was the dining hall where we had the dinner, it’s kind of dinky. I told my florist, who happened to be a friend my issue, and was like ‘Listen i don’t understand florals, so im trusting you. here’s a picture of the space, it’ll be peak fall, here’s my budget. GO” I spent the morning organizing the tables and seating, looked back at the room and thought ‘Ugh, it’s so sad and ugly but there’s nothing to do but let go and let Cynthia’. Low and behold, her and her team blew me away! i was in awe with the work they did!!
Q3: What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
They were actually the only decor we used. I couldn’t tell you what we did or used. What i can tell you is Oxide Design Florals are wonderful! I told them i was flower illiterate, gave them a fall theme, sent them some pictures and they said ‘we got you’ and indeed they did.
Q4: Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
For me it was the ceremony. My big brother was the officiant, which meant a lot to me! He added a lot of personal touches to his ‘officiating’. Plus the whole set up, from the weather to the fall colors and the arch. Ah, so pretty!Stephen’s was the pre-game with the guys. His closest friends hanging out shooting the shit. Both my parents walked me down the aisle, that was really important to me!Madi’s (Stephen’s daughter, my step daughter) speech, she killed it and we were so proud to watch this confident young lady speak out in front of everyone.
Q5: Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
Umm…Stephen picked his brown suit because when we were talking about it to my dad (who looooves fashion) he raved abour Ryan Gosling’s brown suit in LaLa Land. After we left Stephen was like ‘your parents are paying for the wedding, i gotta do a brown suit’ and you know what, it looked great! As for me, i had no idea what i wanted, I liked an Alexandra Grecco dress i saw online and found a store in Ottawa that had it. That dress didnt work but they made me try on a bunch more until i found one that clicked!
Q6: How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
Online! Nothing crazy. I do love our proposal story. Stephen had asked both my parents in the summer about popping the question but didnt actually do it till December. Stephen was kinda grumpy when I came back from Christmas shopping and all bubbly about all the gifts we got. Madi came down and her and i started shooting the shit and laughing.
She went back upstairs, and i went to give Stephen a hug and he goes i need to talk to you about something. My first thought was ‘he’s leaving me or he owes money to the mob’ (he’d been obsessed with reading stuff about the Montreal mob for a few months). He then pulls out his phone and gets on one knee and proposes with a video of the ring…yes you read that right. My first thought there was ‘if this is a joke we’re breaking up RIGHT NOW’. It was not a joke, he was going to pick up the ring the following day and had a elaborate plan to take me to Quebec city or some predictable plan like that.
But when i came back all happy and cheery he had a inkling to do it right then and there because, in his words ‘i knew then and there that no matter how down i could get in life, you always know how to bring me up and when i was in the dumps and you came just being you i knew you could always make me happy and i wanted to do it then, it was a moment that was just so us’. To me , that was the best possible proposal story. I actually always wanted to get proposed to spontaneously with a gum ball ring, i always hated these over the top proposals, or planned out ones at least, they feel very impersonal to me. I got the proposal of my dreams 🙂
Q7: What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
For me it was getting back to our space after the wedding. After a long day with everyone, i just wanted to be with him and talk about everything! For stephen it was the ceremony!
Q8: Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
i think we’re the worst people to ask this question to because all we wanted was to have fun. The restaurant could have said the kitchen burned down and we would have been like that’s cool, let’s order some pizzas and hang. But i think that was apparent in the day, everything felt easy and natural and that’s the comments we got from everyone. That it was a really fun hang where everyone was really well dressed.
