Travel Gawker: I Want To Go To… Wellington, New Zealand!
The weather has taken a turn for the worst over the last couple of days and become rather windy with the odd downpour. When the weather is like this I can’t help but sit and daydream about the places I would love to visit. I watched the Hobbit last week and I have to admit when ever I watch Lord of the Ring films I am always transported to the magical world they live in with all its luscious green scenery.
No surprises then, that today I am daydreaming about visiting New Zealand, the very place the films are shot. If you haven’t watched the Lord of the Rings series and of course the Hobbit then you need to put aside a couple of days to watch them. Trust me when I say you will become totally immersed in the realms of wizards, goblins and small people!
I would want to visit… Te Papa, New Zealand’s national museum. The word ‘Te Papa’ means our place and is said to be one of the best interactive museums in the world. I would love to learn all about New Zealand and Maori culture, the Matariki concerts that are held here are said to be a must see so I would be sure to catch one of those too. The highlight for me of course would be the chance to meet some of the characters from the lord of the ring series such as these giants from The Hobbit!
I would take a walk …. around the Makara Peak track. I love to be outdoors so walking and hiking is the way I would love to spend my days off. Its such a shame that I don’t get to do that as often as I would like. The walk has spectacular views of the coast as well as historical sites such as a Maori fortress.
I would eat at… a cafe on Cuba street full of kitsch boutiques and creative souls. The Matterhorn is said to be a great place to get a bite to eat.
I would take a trip on a … Cable car, a unique way to travel around the city. I think it would a nice romantic way to spend a sunny sunday afternoon looking at the view from the top of the hill and over the harbour.
I would relax… on Oriental Beach with an ice cream from one of the local parlours.
So tell me, have you been to Wellington? What would you recommend in this seriously little cool city?
